Investigation of the Visual Environment of Railway Station Stairs Using Qualitative and Quantitative Evaluation Methods

A qualitative evaluation was performed by comprehensively considering the lighting environment of each staircase 20 railway stations in Tokyo, width stairs, type ceiling, wall fixtures, and color. As a result quantitative it found that difference up to 400 lx occurred measurement results entrance, exit, middle landing, even for same stairs. evaluation, simple proportional relationship were not established. It simply physically brightening space cannot make comfortable safe space, some cases, glare is likely occur. analysis variance correlation analysis, characteristics especially material location equipment, had large effect on impression space. simulation performance varied greatly depending installation lighting. In particular, method installing line light source close ground effective. designing stair public facilities future, considered factors such as finishing walls ceilings, positions, angles which are environmental components other than lighting, should also be considered.
